Ignited and Ready for Blast Off! Friday, August 27, 2010 Crystal City, Texas -- The message is loud and clear: The 2011 JFK Rocket football team is here to play. After traveling a great distance to Crystal City, TX, the Rockets easily wore down a talented, yet small Javelinas football squad. Gaining yards in chunks, the Rockets drove the ball down the field for the opening score of the game; they would never look back. A multitude of scores from the 1st and 2nd squads would result in a 51-7 victory over the Javelinas. The lone highlight for the Javelinas was a throwback to a running back who cunningly slipped undetected out of the backfield for a long touchdown reception.
The most impressive performance was from running back Ryan Garcia who was called upon after sophomore sensation Damian Veloz took a shot to the knee. Garcia eclipsed the century mark in rushing yards and added a pair of touchdown runs. Overall, the Rockets offense amassed a total of over 500 yards of total offense and managed to give the punter the night off. Senior inside linebacker Jesus "Chuy" Chavarria, who celebrated his birthday on Friday, led the attack for the Rocket defense. The Rockets held the Javelinas to well under 200 yards of offense and had 3 take-aways for the evening.
The Rockets will idle the engine this week as they pause for the bye week. However they look to press forward the following Friday as they travel to Lytle, Texas to meet the 27-3A Lytle Pirates. Game is schedule for September 10, 2010 at Walter H. Joyce Jr. Stadium in Lytle, Texas. Come support the Rockets as they continue their quest for a district championship!
